"How did our characters get to be so complicated?"
"Because we love them."

A conversation I recently had with a RP partner that stuck with me.

But, of course. I always think that all my characters want to kill me in my sleep. My friend even told me once: "If Isabelle [my leading lady] were to come to life one day, the first person she would hunt down and kill would be you."

LOL

It's hard to get that out of your head when you're in class for writing other things... I find that part of the fun is adding layers of complexity and it's become a habit to do that with everything! So difficult to internalize that simplicity is key when communicating a story with a brand new audience!

Something about that little exchange gives me the warm-and-fuzzlies.
